Glasgow under Construction

Inside Glasgow Central Station /Am Bahnhof Glasgow Central

This is the train that took me from my Bed and Breakfast to the city centre. Just 1 stop, 5 minutes. I like the sign in the window of the train, top left. It's nice, arriving at a trainstation, especially when it is Glasgow Central, just like the locals!

Dieser Zug brachte mich vom Bed and Breakfast ins Zentrum. Nur eine Station, 5 Minuten. Mir gefällt das Schild im Fenster links oben im Zug. Ich mag es, wenn ich in am Bahnhof in einer Stadt ankomme, erst Recht wenn der Bahnhof Glasgow Central ist. Man fühlt sich wie eine Einheimische, wenig touristisch, schließlich ist es nicht so einfach, sich auf einem Bahnhof zurechtzufindem.

I imagine the locomotives filling the big hall with steam and smoke 100 years ago. Today the trains run on Diesel and not electricity. Almost exotic!

Ich stelle mir vor, wie die Dampflokomotiven die Halle vollqualmten. Die Züge fahren heute mit Diesel, nicht mit Strom. Direkt exotisch.

A corner at the Barras where the market takes place every weekend. The animal-faces on the white wall caught my eye. The remains of past user at the lot.

Eine Ecke bei "Barras", wo der Markt am Wochenende abgehalten wird. Mein Blick blieb an den  Tiergesichtern auf der weißen Wand hängen. Überbleibsel einer früheren Nutzung am Gelände.

How it used to be: tiles and black, often accompanied by glossy wall paint.

You don't have to search for sites under construction, they are almost everywhere. At least around the old cathedral, former university district. As a consequence you see a lot of architecture firms.

Und so sah es bislang aus: Fliesen und häuft schwarzglänzende Wandfarbe

Man muss die Baustellen nicht suchen, sie sind beinahe überall. Zumindest rund um die Kathedrale, im ehemaligen Universitätsviertel. Entsprechend viele Architekturbüros findet man in der Stadt.

Ein neues Geschäftsportal, das Bezug auf die traditionell in Schwarz gehaltenen Portale nimmt.

The most interesting connection-heads I have ever seen. They look like mushrooms.

Die interessantesten Abdeckkappen für Leitungen die mir je untergekommen sind, sie sehen aus wie Schwammerln.

The pictures capture the "red side" of Glasgow quite well. (You remember the last posting on red sandstone) There are other sides of Glasgow to come - the greener side as well as the grey side. More to come!
