The End of Paula's Diary

EDIT:
With a light heart I may tell you I am back. 2013 has been a ...  special year with lots of turbulences but also wonderful journeys and tricky lessons. I've bought a new camera  - the SIGMA DP2 Merrill - back in April and without blog, I have no reason to go outside and search for motives. Since I did not find/search for a better alternative where to publish and display my photos, I decided to continue blogging. Also it seems the webspace grew over time, which means I don't have to delete old photos on the blog to find room for new entries, which is nice.
I adapted the blog layout, focus on the photos and cancelled the German version, what a timesaver!

Paula / December 2013

With a heavy heart I have to tell you I will stop blogging. The effort it takes on the one hand and the audience this blog reaches on the other hand just does not add up. I know that there are some readers out there who really enjoy this blog, the photos, the insights of Vienna etc.
This does not change the fact, that the most frequent readers stop by for Ellen Parsons, Cameron Diaz' haircut, my chopped hair in the floor, an IKEA dressing table and Joan Sallas. Oh, and not to forget the Schönbrunner Bad, Bundessportbad and Christmas Lights in Vienna.

I made up my mind and am sure, the world will find Cameron Diaz' haircut on other websites as well, Joan Sallas definitely needs his own webappearance and the Schönbrunner Bad and Bundessportbad should put some effort in their PR as well as shopping streets for their Christmas-lights.

I for myself have far too many interests to spend hours every week, communicating with you, when there comes so little in return. I am not bitter at this point, just very determined, that's what I usually am. There is no grey, just black and white. Yes, it would have made a difference, if the reach and reponse had been ten-times. It also matters that I spend 38 hours/week in front of a computer. I don't want to sit in front of the computer in my free-time, too. I have used this blog mainly for making more use of my ever so beloved photos. I think I will move on and find a vessel that proves to be more adequate for this hobby.
I already miss my blog. But you can't have it all and a day comes with 24hours, no more. If my need of sleep will decrease to 4hrs/night, I will come back, promise!

The blog will remain online but the comments-function will be disabled soon. You can always reach me via email. I won't be gone.

With this in mind and duties and matters of the heart await me and since I have only one back, I am going to turn my back towards the blogsphere and say "Thank you" for giving me the chance to improve my English. :-)

Best wishes,
Paula

Paula

13 is my lucky number

I grew up in the 13th district of Vienna, a most scenic area, indeed.
Ich bin im 13. Bezirk aufgewachsen, einer wahrhaftig malerischen Gegend.

This is the hopsital where my tonsils were cut out more than 2 decaded ago. One of the not so pleasant memories...

The light these days is very warm (speaking in Kelvin) and soft. Photographers who's job is taking photos of buildings say, this light is bad, since it is too kitschy. I don't agree.

Maybe the light is even too kitschy to portray nature?
Or too kitschy to capture those moments that speak the language of harmony?

A Roadtrip to the East

My dear readers and followers, I have to admit, scrolling through the recent postings I have to say Vienna is at its best these days. And I have not even covered the Vienna Design Week, that is already history, yet, since I am too busy going out almost every evening, returning with loads of new pictures.

Today, after-work, I went to the East of Vienna by bike to meet a new friend, who works at the Anker Brotfabrik. Well, her office is situated in the former part of the bread-factory but you can hear the mills processing tons of flour. The scent in the air is divine. Sweet and yeasty. mmmh. Like fresh bread. Opposite her office the camera-afficionado Peter Coeln opened a gallery, named Ostlicht. The owner is famous for his vintage camera collection.
On my way to the East / Am Weg in den Osten

The whole former factory-quarter is undergoing massive changes, only to be outruled by the construction site at the future main rail terminal in Vienna. On my way to the east I enjoy what I see on my way, such as cranes and lamp-posts

Two weeks ago I felt in love with the desert fields, do you remember? (you need to scroll down). Today the rusty sandy hills got me. Love!

The gallery Ostlicht is situated in the middle of construction lots. It is not the only gallery. I like to go back and visit the other places, too!
Admission is free, which surprised me and the atmosphere was very relaxé. People stepped by and enjoyed a drink or to at the bar, staff from the office next door walked through the exhibition, the perfect Friday after-work vibe. I felt really comfortable, maybe it had to do with my charming ompany, who did not mind discussing what we saw on display. I know some people who can not look and talk. We can! ;-)
I did not take pictures of Wim Wender's artwork in the following 2 rooms, since I see no use in taking photos of photos. :-)
If the blog proceeds in this direction, I might have to introduce a new label, "Art"! Oops, it's already here. Very well then, it is going to grow larger. Right on!
To be continued with a visit at Ed Ruscha's view on the Museum of Fine Arts Vienna. Coming Soon!

This is how I leave the house in the morning. Being out of focus was NOT my intention! I need practice with the mirror :-)
Gut so :-)
To be continued ... mit Ed Ruschas Blick auf das Kunsthistorische Museum Wien. Coming Soon!

M - eine Stadt sucht einen Hut

What a lucky evening Klaus Mühlbauer and his family had tonight. You might have heard about the brand before - they ship their hats to Japan, US and UK. It is a family owned business and tonight they invited their customers, friends and the press to watch  admire the Fall/Winter collection. There was a lot to see. Again, such a lucky evening. Mid October, 17°C. More than you could ask for!

live music in the shop window. nice sound!
Live Musik in der Auslage, feiner Sound! (hier nicht zu hören) ;-)
Not much later the crowd gathered for the show in the basement. too crowded for me. I fled upstairs. Which turned out to be the right descision.

Klaus Mühlbauer, asking the guests to stay off the stairway, since it is part of the catwalk. Nice suit. Ever since I returned from Scotland, my eyes catch tartan everywhere. Could it be they are "in" this season?

The models posed in the shopwindows, everyone who left the basement and went outside had a nice view and nice air.
