Guided by a Girl

I don't know about your home towns, parks and squares, but in Vienna you find so called "Baulückenparks": former empty building lots, which have been transformed into parks – most of have been design in the 1980's and 90's.

The reason why I came to the park with my camera in the first place:
the rooftop-structure reminds me of a boat in a dry dock.

Today I visited the park with my camera and it did not take long and I found company. I little girl, Katherina, joined me on my tour in the park. She happily pointed at scenic spots - spots she considered being worth being pictured, f.e. this blue colour on a wooden bench:

It is amazing, how good kids are at imitating. The girl had approached me and asked "Why do you take this picture?"

My answer: "I take this picture, because in my eyes, this is an interesting wall. The colour is beautiful, I like the blue and the yellow".

Not much later I found myself next to her, and listening to her words: "See, this is beautiful, I like this colour. Take a picture, it is a beautiful colour". Call her in :-)

Adult choice: The little girl was fond of the black and blue contrast.
One rare, since not overly designed corner in a Viennese park

 Imagine Christo

The structures you find in a park a useful. This stand provided an elevated angle, luxurious!

 Dogs everywhere ;-)

The girl's favourites:
No generation without Air Jordan. Haha!

There is a reason why I pictured only Katharina's hand and feet: She wanted me to take a photo of her, too. I explained to her, that I won't take a photo without her mother's or father's permission.

Btw, it is amazing how fast you can become friends with kids as soon as you slow down, they approach you. Taking your time is playful. We all play in our own way.

Looking at these photos, taken on a Saturday afternoon at 6pm, you see, there is almost nothing going on. Which is good! I appreciate this down time, in terms of sensations, because one week from today I am going to wake up in a different time zone, in a different climate, with a different language and uncommon places ... One word: Siberia.

Have a nice weekend!

This is a mystery to me

When in Rome, mysteries are nearby. The Vatican, the Vatican bank, you know the secrets. Mysteries behind the wall that encloses the Vatican.

Today I am talking about a very different kind of mystery. The one, that comes from the people, not the pope.

The mystery leaves me with one big question: How could Italy become the world's leading design nation in the 20th century, when they use designs like this:
Green, yellow and red  - the three bold colours you are likely to find on 7/10 Italian websites. Altogther, for sure.

To refresh your memory, "pininfarina" is where they are coming from:
pininfarina - as in Alfa

In the end it's mystery, which makes life far more intriguing.

Have a good day,
Paula

Bruno and Marie Curie

While I was busy packing the Mozartkugeln, these two blind passengers took advantage - I was in the other room - and jumped into the backpack.

Long story short: I found them before these blind passangers had the chance to board the airplane. We just had a brief talk, regarding safety regulations, scissors etc.

They explained: how they wish visit the country of their ancestors. I admit, I can't resisit those eyes.
And they seemed sooo excited about the trip. Their last trip to France was not that successful: no bears sightings at all.
Well, so we are going to travel as a group of 4. How nice!

Having a sister

I was born as the younger sister. My sister was born as the only child. Then I arrived and changed her life.I could look at those two photos forever.

Have a lovely weekend!

More magic ...

I saw this photo for the first time today. My father has been busy digitizing old slides from his archives. The above photo was taken 35 years ago. I had treasured those memories – phantastic costumes and adventures the daughter's-cabin provided – over decades. And today I see thoses memories being as close to reality as they can get. Those days, when we crossed the Atlantic ocean are some of my earliest memories.
Next week my sister will take me on a trip to Hamburg. There is something about Hamburg that always attracted me. Maybe it's the ships and the nearby sea. Maybe it's the "class" I sense when I meet people from Hamburg.

2012 seems to be made for travelling. The envelopes with tickets and railpasses line up on the side board, all in its proper time. I am trained in packing light and will leave the floor space to my sister's trunks.

When times slow down I will happily catch up with you and tell all the stories, about birthday-hikes, the the long way up to the Butt of Lewis that is ahead of us,  my ongoing love for Mr. Ruppitsch's services and the new sensation of me being on time. Not a bad idea, since boarding boards at the airports often don't come with the actual time. Would the portrait of an officially certified superlative chronometer suit this blog? Probably yes, since it suits me quite well!

Looking at the above photo, I am almost certain the man in the back (resting in his deckchair) was not amused. See how excited the girl on the upper deck behaves. Can you see him, the way he turned his head and frowns? Roles seem to stick forever: my sister was pretty cool, lying there, sunbathing, totally relaxé, whilst I preferred to ... well, to what? ... to express my excitement? Maybe!

You will hear from me after the next trip! Hopefully full with excitement and lots capital letters. HAMBURG :-D

The Princess and the Pea

I never had a problem admitting I am the princess on the pea. The princess on the pea is probably as much misunderstood as is Miami Vice (the movie) the most underrated movie in 2006 (another story). However.

It seems as if I passed the pea-gene on to these fellows:

PS: the cussions are the remains of the Selig-sofa which had to give way after 35 yrs.
