Favourite Images - Cabin

This is on the plane from Vienna to Hamburg.

I happened to "find" this sight on my way back from the toilet to my seat. I liked it so much, I went to my seat to grab my camera and went back to the end of the aisle where I shot this photo. I am glad I did, because this is one of my favourite photos taken during the trip to Hamburg. Hamburg is known as "the" German city for publishers, newspapers and magzines. It touches me, when I see how everyone is busy reading. Not looking at photos in glossy magazines but reading lots of words on huge pages. Culture at its best.

In the end this blog is about photos. Oh yes, and the title is in plural, since this is the first image-focused posting, more are to come.

  1. Ooh, I think I like Hamburg! Is there a newspaper stand with newspapers from all over the world? That's one of my dream-to be able to go to a newspaper stand with titles printed in different languages. I worry that with the internet my dream is obsolete or outdated. (although I beg to differ.)

  2. One? Dozens! You would find them as well in Vienna. I had no idea this is not a regualar feature a news-stand offers in today's world. Mr Paula and I spent last Sunday reading at my parent's terrace. The newspapers were everywhere. My mum loved the relaxed atmosphere, we stayed for hours. It was actually a really nice afternoon.

  3. Perhaps just my slice of the world. I've only lived in two places: somewhere in the US while in university and Manila, the Philippines. In university, I don't even remember seeing a newspaper stand, but I think it's because American newspapers are typically sold using vending machines on the sidewalks. And here in Manila, we do have local newspapers for the Chinese, Korean and Japanese communities in their respective languages but the news is local.

I love reading big Sunday editions of newspapers. Sometimes it takes me the whole day but it's okay, it's a perfectly good way to spend a Sunday.
