The End of Paula's Diary

EDIT:
With a light heart I may tell you I am back. 2013 has been a ...  special year with lots of turbulences but also wonderful journeys and tricky lessons. I've bought a new camera  - the SIGMA DP2 Merrill - back in April and without blog, I have no reason to go outside and search for motives. Since I did not find/search for a better alternative where to publish and display my photos, I decided to continue blogging. Also it seems the webspace grew over time, which means I don't have to delete old photos on the blog to find room for new entries, which is nice.
I adapted the blog layout, focus on the photos and cancelled the German version, what a timesaver!

Paula / December 2013

With a heavy heart I have to tell you I will stop blogging. The effort it takes on the one hand and the audience this blog reaches on the other hand just does not add up. I know that there are some readers out there who really enjoy this blog, the photos, the insights of Vienna etc.
This does not change the fact, that the most frequent readers stop by for Ellen Parsons, Cameron Diaz' haircut, my chopped hair in the floor, an IKEA dressing table and Joan Sallas. Oh, and not to forget the Schönbrunner Bad, Bundessportbad and Christmas Lights in Vienna.

I made up my mind and am sure, the world will find Cameron Diaz' haircut on other websites as well, Joan Sallas definitely needs his own webappearance and the Schönbrunner Bad and Bundessportbad should put some effort in their PR as well as shopping streets for their Christmas-lights.

I for myself have far too many interests to spend hours every week, communicating with you, when there comes so little in return. I am not bitter at this point, just very determined, that's what I usually am. There is no grey, just black and white. Yes, it would have made a difference, if the reach and reponse had been ten-times. It also matters that I spend 38 hours/week in front of a computer. I don't want to sit in front of the computer in my free-time, too. I have used this blog mainly for making more use of my ever so beloved photos. I think I will move on and find a vessel that proves to be more adequate for this hobby.
I already miss my blog. But you can't have it all and a day comes with 24hours, no more. If my need of sleep will decrease to 4hrs/night, I will come back, promise!

The blog will remain online but the comments-function will be disabled soon. You can always reach me via email. I won't be gone.

With this in mind and duties and matters of the heart await me and since I have only one back, I am going to turn my back towards the blogsphere and say "Thank you" for giving me the chance to improve my English. :-)

Best wishes,
Paula

Paula

    1. Dear Lisa, you will stay on my radar! Yes it's all about the photos - a blog did not turn out to be the right medium. Too many words :-)

  2. I will not be so reserved -- I will say, "nooooooooooo!" I hear you on the time, the effort, the stuck-to-the-computer-for-work. But I will miss you.

Perhaps if you dialed back on the frequency it would return to being an enjoyable outlet for you? Better a little Paula than none.

If you stand by your decision, wishing you many happy adventures!

    1. Vix, posting less was never an option. It just would not feel right. It is not that I will not miss blogging, I will! The time I regain is worth the loss. I did not sleep over the decision, the determination was there and that was it. My apologies for this abrupt end. 2012 can be a nasty one.
Same for you, as soon as I found the right way to bring my photos online, you hear from me! That's the up-side with a small audience: you can easily stay in touch with each and everyone hehe. xox Paula

    1. Dear coffeeaddict, thank you very much!
As I just answered to "DerSilberneLöffel" above – the world is just not fair: I do my best and in the end all that I get in return are red eyes from the over-hours at the computer.
Not that I did enjoy writing for people like you, but the overall traffic went in another direction. There are probably not enough people like you/us? out there to keep me going.
My first project will be organising all the photos on my hard drives. I used to be very, very organised until I started blogging. I am very pleased that we met in the blogsphere!

Danke!

What I want to add is that this posting is not meant to be "fishing for compliments", but as an explanation why there will be no more stories from now on.

I really appreciate your kind words and feel that lovely people have come to this corner in the blogsphere, which is really nice! I never had a problem with "Anonymous"-comments that went straigt online, since there was not a single comment that was not nice. Thank you!

  12. Hallo Paula!

  15. Oh I so hear you regarding the effort versus the returns of blogging. But if I don't write I will not be happy so it still makes sense for me, even though I have had to cut back on blogging and will have to even further as the months go on. Maybe you should just put your photos up, not a lot of text, just pictures?

As for the Nina Garcia book you mentioned on my blog, that is one of the best style books I have ever read, and Nina definitely got it right with her selections. I have yet to try the Wolford tights but I actually wrote it down in a notebook because I want to buy a pair this winter. If you like them too, then that settles it, I am getting a pair! I hope you are well. XO, Jill

    1. Hi Jill! If the blog were the right medium, I would definitely stick to it, but over the past weeks I realized my photos need another type of attention, not ephemeral like the view on a smartphone, tablet or office-PC, but something more ... inviting. I also noticed I enjoy certain articles much more, when I read them holding the newspaper in my hands, instead of reading the article online.
For the Wolford tights: yes, yes, yes! 3times :) I just ordered the tights in "Stellar" and "Admiral", two blue tones. I might even try the 50den. They are absolutely worth the money, they last several seasons! When did Nina Garcia publish the book? I still wear the same pair if the Velvet de Luxe that I bought back then. Amazing, no?

I know you realize you have a lot more readers than is evident from comments, but it is true that there are ways to share your photographs that might be better for you. I am glad to see that you are still leaving your unique comments on other blogs. Thank you again.

    1. Dear Beryl, thank you for leaving a message!
It was not for the lack of comments but lack of readers that I decided to quit the blog. I felt uncomfortable publishing my photos in a medium, that differs a lot, depending on the screen of the reader at the other side (brighter, lower light, warmer or cooler colours).
At the moment I absolutely enjoy talking to other photo-amateurs and what they do with their photos. Every single person has a unique approach, it is inspiring to hear other people's opinions.
Again, thank you, it is interesting to see who I reached in the end!
